The room was cloaked in silence, the only sound being Ciaran's steady breathing as he slept. Ivy watched him for a moment.

And then, without warning, the cabinet door creaked open, and out stepped Vivian.

"Fuckin' hell!" Ivy whispered sharply, her heart racing.

Viv looked at her with a mischievous grin on her face

"Didn't mean to scare ya. I've got this neat trick where I can hide in plain sight. Comes in handy when you're trying to avoid chores."

Ivy shook her head, trying to catch her breath. "What are you doing here, Viv?"

"Overheard your little chat with Ciaran," she replied casually. "Makes sense now, that dark freaking aura I feel around you. Shit, Ivy, you might be connected to the demon royal?"

"Language, Viv," Ivy chided automatically, but her heart was heavy with worry. "Yes, it's a possibility. But I don't know for sure yet, and I need to find out before I tell Killian."

"Ya know," Viv mused, looking thoughtful, "I saw a druid perform a ritual once – expelled a demon's hold on someone. My clan might have somethin' that could help you."

"Really?" Ivy felt a flicker of hope ignite within her. "That would be great... Thank you, Viv."

"Hey, we're family, right?" Viv grinned. "We stay under the same roof." She grinned.

Before Ivy could respond, the sound of footsteps echoed through the hallway outside the room.

Her heart leapt into her throat.

Killian.

Ivy scrambled up onto the windowsill and swung herself out onto the roof, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.

Killian's voice drifted up to the from within the room.

"Viv, what are you doing in here?"

"Damn, you're good," came Vivian's admiring response. "Ivy was in here earlier, healed Ciaran and left. I think you should give her some fuckin' space, though. She's got shit to sort out."

"Enough with the profanity, Viv. You're only thirteen." Killian growled.

"Thirteen point nine."

Ivy pressed her ear against the roof tiles to eavesdrop, trying to slow her breathing. Her mind racing as she considered her next move.

Ivy's heart raced as she heard the door close, leaving her alone on the roof.

She knew it was only a matter of time before Killian would find her, and the anticipation sent shivers down her spine.

Suddenly, she heard a noise from behind her. Ivy turned to see Killian gracefully landing on the rooftop beside her, moving like a big cat stalking its prey. The smell of his masculine scent filled her nostrils, making her feel lightheaded and weak in the knees. She could see him drawing in her scent as if he were starving for it, and the intensity of his gaze made her breath catch in her throat.

"Killian," she whispered, unable to hide the surprise and desire in her voice.

"We agreed to hold off after our intimacy the other night," he said softly, his voice strained with emotion. "We both know you're not a shifter, and I need to mate with one... but damn it, Ivy, I can't stay away from you."

His words echoed her own feelings, and before she could respond, he had closed the distance between them.
